In the small town Cholpon-ATA on the north bank of the Issyk-Kul you get a little insight into the life and tradition of Kyrgyzstan. The place contains numerous hotels, sanatoriums and guest houses from the Soviet Union time. The Konortchok canyons with the sandstone formations is unique in its kind in the Tian Shan mountains. With its beauty, biodiversity and size, it can compete with the Valley of Fire in Las Vegas.

It is the only connecting road through the eastern Tajik region of Berg-Badachshan and the second highest highway in the world after the Karakorum Highway.
